"Everything here dead yet?" An orc grunted as it stopped near the children's hiding place, scuffed boots a scant three feet away from their faces. Holding in their breaths, the three willed him away from their sport.
"Most of them villagers are already dead. Some rats are hiding out in that white stone building." Another porcine voice stated with a snort. "We're smoking them out, so once they come a rushing like headless chickens, we can butcher them." Something was spat out of his mouth and landed on the floor with a wet plop, brown sludge with dark bits mixed in.
"Faha. Humans aren't as scary as the commander said. They're just hairless apes with no strength. Did ya see what happened with that one brown haired fella in the green apron who tried to sneak attack the leader? He got cleaved in half!" The mocking laughter and their owners eventually headed away from the hidden spot, leaving behind a chilling feeling.
"...Lemme at one..." Genis finally said, his voice soft but menacing. "I want to repay those whoresons back for what they did. I'll... I'll stick them like a pig and-" His quiet tirade stopped by the two girls squeezing his hands, the boy bit back a sob. Tears were flowing down his cheeks as the truth mocked him. "Pa..." Genis choked out, looking like he was about to crack.
"Why did this have to happen?" Rianna asked with a grimace. "Why here? And how? We're nowhere near the Dark Lands..."
"That can wait for later. Right now though, we have to escape." Alice stated, drowning her guilt towards the village with practical self-preservation. "We... can't do anything. If the village with its tough grown-ups was taken over so quickly, there must be a lot of the things... Nothing we do right now will make a difference. We have to get away." Judging from the Genis' reddening face, her words didn't go over too well with the boy.
"Genis..." The other girl looked troubled, but she was intelligent enough to see the Lost Child's point. "We need to survive. Our parents would want that..." Seeing he was about to exclaim in anger, Rianna continued. "Children like us- without training or weapons, can't hope to do anything as we are. What happened with the Aqua Hound was only because we were lucky. The thing was already half dead. I want revenge too, Genis." The cold words sapped the hotblooded boy's strength until he was drooping. "We need to become strong first. When we have enough power, we will right this wrong. Burn this scene in your minds. Never forget what they did and one day in the future, these bastards will pay with blood."
"...Right..." Genis muttered, his downy head shaking. "Leader... What should we do now?" The boy whispered, desperately looking for guidance from his junior. He needed something to latch onto, a way to keep his sanity in check. The group had always talked of becoming either regal Knights who served the Empire with amazing abilities or Adventurers who freely roamed the land, hunting monsters and treasures. As they were right now, they should have enough talent to catch someone's interest.

And so the three orphans made their way eastwards, towards the great city of Langard. Their journey was long and the road riddled with dangers. Some nights they didn't sleep at all, walking ever eastwards despite weather and geography. It was with little fanfare that the group tiredly entered Langard, the City of Dreams. Braving many hardships, the trio finally managed to become members of a certain adventuring guild, labelled "White Rabbit". And so, the disc continued spinning until 5 summers passed by...
Year of the Lord, 1175
"Finally... We can enter taverns on our own!" Alice exclaimed, throwing up her arms as she proudly looked at the <<<Little Bear>>>'s swinging sign. Behind her, Genis and Rianna was bowing down to passerby's, apologizing for their loud friend. 5 years had passed since then, and now the group were old enough to be called adults. Both Genis and Rianna were rather tall, the boy's frame now evenly muscular while the girl's proportions were that of a well endowed young woman. In contrast with her friends' growth, Alice was rather small for her age in more than one area. The three could now enter drinking establishments to pick their own jobs, a heady amount of freedom compared to the leader giving out secondhand job requests that other grown ups turned down. At last, their apprenticeship was at an end.
"So... Can we go in now?" Genis prodded, wanting to hide the loud leader into a place with walls so that the street theater would be cut short. He knew that Alice Lancaster was a person that often attracted attention. Pushing his small charge through the doors, the three glanced about this way and that. The interior was like twilight, with lamps giving off gentle dawn colors that muted vibrancy. Underneath the smell of roasted meat was a hint of wood, and many of the patrons were holding onto foaming mugs of spirit. The bar had two floors, with the upper levels holding the the job board the three were after.
Before they could make it up the stairs though, a heavyset drunkard stumbled near the two with a leer on his face. "Well now, babyfaced yunguns... How'd you like big brother to teach you about the adult world? Specially you two young lasses?" Breaching Rianna's personal space, the large man attempted to pet her red locks. With practiced grace, the bespectacled lass backstepped safely out of his reach. Frowning at the action, the customer attempted to pursue the now accredited magician.

Putting a small hand the man's shoulder, Alice transmitted the strength of her <<<Authority>>> through that touch. Immediately, the man froze in place as he felt what appeared to be the presence of some large beast looming behind him. Glancing around, he only saw the dimunitive girl lightly touching him. "Please don't molest my friend, laggard. She cares not for the rough touch of dirty drunkards like you." Though said lightly, there was an unmistakable hint of iron tempered in her tone. Nearby, Genis started groaning with dismay while Rianna clucked approvingly. The both knew what was going to happen next.
"Little girls shouldn't tell their betters what to do." Shaking off the hand, the large man turned around to regard the tiny "protector" with a gimlet eye. "What are you, one of those girl dandies that steal waifs from hardworking men?" Plastered and sneering, the man poked Alice in directly the chest. "Ain't even got much meat on you-" Before he could even finish his words, a sudden intense palm strike to the chin rattled his thoughts to the point of blacking out.
For a few ponderous seconds, the giant stood like a statue with his head snapped to look at the ceiling. Slowly, he began toppling forward and crashed down on the hardwood floor like felled timber. Staring at the other gaping customers, Alice folded her arms and drew herself up slightly on tiptoes. "He was sexually harassing me. I was forced to practice self-defense." Under her glare, the patrons immediately averted their eyes and got back to their own business. "Hmph." Flouncing up the stairs with her followers, the group came to stop at the giant board full of written requests. "Right then, our first request..." Since they were rookies, the highest rank they could work on was C. That said, Alice began searching for the most reward money among the listings before stopping at two likely prospects.
[ ] Hobgoblin Infestation- "Travel to the Eastern Woodlands and quash the Monsters attacking innocent people who want to gather medicinal herbs." Reward: 600 Darcs. [ ] Bear Arms- "A local Badger Bear has acquired a taste for human meat. Eliminate the maneater before more lives are lost." Reward: 500 Darcs.

Being unable to pick just one, the girl in the blue dress took it upon herself to go for the third option= doing both at once! Plucking the posters off the board, she then rushed to the counter to register their names for the quest. Her two companions just wanly stared at each other and shrugged their shoulders, knowing exactly how their leader tended to behave in such situations. "You and Mr. Unlucky will go after the Hobgoblins while I go after the bear!" Alice hollered behind her shoulder, eyes full of anticipation for the first official quest(s).
Some Time Later
The three had split up, Alice deviating from the main group in order to track the Badger Bear. From the information she had gathered, the beast was unexpectedly diurnal since it wanted to prey on humans. It also tended to go after younger people, so the adventurer alone would have sufficed as bait. That said, the girl wanted to hurry things along even more so she did something Alice-esque. She bought a honey and apple pie, keeping it warm and fragrant inside a bubble that the red headed magician conjured up until this moment. With the barrier popped, the smell of freshly baked pastry wafted through the surroundings. Everyone knew that both bears and badgers loved honey, so logically a mixture of the two should be twice as likely to go after the thing!
The girl was munching on a piece of the thing when she heard the bushes rustle greatly as something of great girth dragged its body from the undergrowth. A conical snout emerged first, followed by narrowed eyes and drawn back lips. Standing upon its hind legs was an ursine foe of well over 7 feet. One could see that its eyes gleamed with anticipation as it saw a honey flavored maiden waiting in plain sight, two of its favorite foods rolled into one.
Fearlessly grinning at how fast the thing fell into her trap, Alice slid out twin scimitars from the sheathes on her back. Right now they were just <<<Iron Scimitars>>>, but soon she'll have enough money to reforge them into something better. The blades were meticulously polished and sharpened, so the rippling grey swords splendidly reflected the dappled afternoon light. The bear was unheeding of such beauty though, and instead began a slight canter toward the now on guard girl. Almost casually, it swiped in a wide arc with is giant claws, covering much more distance then the White Rabbit member was sure it was capable of. Before it was too late though, the girl went into motion to-

Doing an impromptu aerial cartwheel, Alice's left arm flicked downwards and caught the offending limb two strikes with her blade. Unfortunately for her, the Badger Bear's had annoying tough skin along with thick coarsely matted hair fibers that acted as a sort of natural armor. The attacks bounced off the rubbery skin, breaking only the tiniest amount of flesh to inflict scratch damage. Landing a few feet away from the bear, Alice readied her weapons in front of herself. "...This is tougher than I thought..."
Growling at the unexpected resistance, the ursine foe stood up again. Its eyes slowly reddened until it was completely crimson. Pinkish wisps began escaping from its mouth, twirling through the air This was <<<Bloodmist>>>, a characteristic unique to certain Monsters. By completely disregarding the "Flight" from "Fight or Flight", the animal became purely focused on offense- a true berserker. Charging into the fray with a baying sound, the frenzied thing launched a series of air rending slashes.
"Interesting..." Unable to not smile, the little girl's face was now sporting a fierce grin. Deftly dodging the amazing swift but open claw strikes with quick footwork, Alice danced through the attacks. Sometimes knocking the claws astray with her blades, sometimes ducking, sometimes spinning, the girl always retaliated by delivering counterattacks with her flashing <<<Iron Scimitars>>>. Still, it was like striking at a boulder with a handpick, for the creature's natural size and armor proved a staunch defense against the deviously flickering iron blades. "You are quite a bothersome thing." Quipping, she jumped back from an uppercut that took a few pieces of her forelocks off. The thing even more whipped up because the annoying prey was still undamaged, it held up its paws skywards and then interlocked them, leaving its wide stomach wide open. Red haze began enveloping its forearms- the beginnings of a <<<Monster Skill>>>. "This is it..." Eyes widening in anticipation, Alice could feel her blood beginning to boil with excitement.

"Today, we shall settle this like men. But less so than men then a very independent woman and a giant maneating bear!" Alice yelled out as she threw herself at the thing like a spear, feet barely touching the ground and swords leaving behind navy blue trails through the air. And then, blue and red met- engulfing the forest in a flash of white light. The descending paws easily broke through Alice's first scimitar- sending its blade flying through the air. The ground was pulverized in another second from the massive weight of the attack, leaving behind a large crater and intense winds that shook lesser trees.
By all means, the bear's opponent should have been naught but a bloodied pulp by now, though that wasn't the case: there was no trace of her remains at all. Alice had successfully dodged the attack by abandoning her first sword at the very last second before sidestepping to the right and exploding off the ground. Pirouetting gracefully after she reached the apex of her leap, narrowed sapphire eyes homed in on her prey. Holding her remaining scimitar with both hands, the falling girl did a somersaulting cleave with an intensely blue sword completing a perfect circular trail- <<<Blue Moon>>>. Because of the exact nature of her attack, it was highly unwieldy in most circumstances considering how openly choreographed the actions were. But by waiting for the opponent to become angry and initiate a risky move, the girl had been able to pull off the audacious stunt without a hitch.
Landing on bent knees, Alice allowed gravity to pull the hem of blue dress downwards again. Once her clothes were settled, the still bear's skull separated into two perfect halves. "Fuu..." Flicking the blood off her blade in a backhand motion, the tiny warrior then sheathed her remaining sword with a flourish. "You were a worthy opponent, Mr. Bear. But this <<<White Rabbit>>> is not easy prey." Respect was paid and the loser's defeat raised the winner's <<<Authority>>>. Taking out the rest of the pie, Alice munched on the still warm pastry from the her perch on the vanquished ursine foe. Idly she wondered what to do next.

Sighing as she finished her pie, Alice took out a small stone in the shape of a rabbit from her pocket- the <<<Path Link Stone>>>. They were usually kept in pairs, and if two holders were close enough to each other, could transport one person to the other holder's location. It was thanks to <<<White Rabbit>>> that they had something as handy as this. Concentrating on her friends' features, Alice and the bear she was on instantly winked out of existence.
When able to open her eyes again, the girl found a chaotic scene. Dozens of dead hobgoblins littered the ground. Small and reptilian in nature, these fell denizens were like stringy green humanoids with scales and tufts of red fur. Looking further into the distance, the meatshieldchainmail wearing Genis was seen swinging his <<<Black Halberd>>> at the hooting things and smacking them about with ease, trying to get at the leader of the pack: a Hobgoblin twice as tall as his followers adorned with skull earings that was throwing more of its lackeys back into the fray. The boy was much better with polearms than swords it seemed. Choosing that moment to activate a <<<Weapon Skill>>>, the young man hit a homerun as multiple green things were hurled out of sight into the blue horizon.
Rianna meanwhile was busy countering three Shamans that were busy hurling fireballs at her with a floating veil of water that dissipated the heat magicks. A particularly bold grunt attempted to use the situation to run her through with flint knife from behind, only to be surprised as its arms were lopped off by a ghostly metallic blade emitted from the hardwood wand in her non-casting hand. Because the magician found the stereotype of magicians being defenseless against melee combat annoying, she invented an entirely new item devoted to such events: the <<<Bladewand>>>. They were customized by the redheaded intellectual with special rings and lenses so that it emitted and maintained a continous cutting edge instead of firing off its magics like regular wands. Modeled after the rapier, this elegant instrument was the perfect solution for would-be mage killers.

Pulling up her sleeves, Alice marched towards her female friend with a spring in her step and a gleam in her eyes. The fact that her friend was having so much trouble with those inferior magic-users meant that she needed an extra jolt to delve into her pool of power. Positioned behind her conservatively dressed friend, the tinier of the two began to wiggle her fingers suggestively. Poor Rianna never knew what hit her...
"Hyah?!" Squeaking out in a much girlier voice than normal, the magician eyes flicked back to regard a deviously grinning golden haired devil. Knead knead. Tiny fingers dug into her soft back in just the right spots, sending intense waves of pleasure bolting through her frame. "Wh-what are you doing, Alice?!" Gasping as thumbs pressed into particularly sensitive spots, the magician could scarcely hold back moans of pleasure emanating from the back of her throat. Alice was very good at massaging people it seemed.
"So... Feel any better? You're always so tense and straightlaced, sometimes you need to relax..." Innocently asking that question, Alice ducked away from the lunging and rarely off-guard Rianna, whose hands wanted to strangle that little porcelain windpipe. "You know, your fans are waiting for more." Quipping and pointing at the Shamans, Alice indicated that the lizards had stopped casting and were drooling at the spectacle.
"...Shameful... shameful... dirty... dirty..." Muttering under her breath, the sun reflected off Rianna's lens in a strange manner, obscuring her eyes from view. Magical aura sparked from her skin unrestrained, lending the magician an ominous crimson aura. What happened next could only be described as a small flash flood appearing out of nowhere and sweeping away everything in her line of sight. "ALIIIIIICCCCEEEEE!" Howling out for blood, the mage began chasing the rapidly departing girl with lightning bolts emanating from her hands. Poor Genis was caught in the branches of a stout tree after the waters drained away, bemusement on his face.
Some Time Later
After an intense lecture and upbraiding, Alice walked upon the cobblestone roads of Langard with sore legs. The darn witch didn't went easy on her friend, forcing her to do hours of seiza whilst being forced to listen to a tirade of what is right and proper. With her share of money in hand, the girl was looking forward to having a good time to make up for the "sadistic punishment session". In the distance, she could see a crowd was forming on one of the larger streets, concealing whatever was attracting attention from view.
