Welcome, recruits.
You have just arrived at the headquarters of the most prestigious educational facility in the world. We are not on any official records, nor are we listed on any government registers - but we are there, nonetheless. Waiting for whatever might warrant our attention.
With all this mystique, you might be wondering why none of you have been told anything beforehand. Or, perhaps, why you have been snatched from your previous lives and thrown here, on a hangar in the middle of a tropical rainforest and on an island that has been erased from every map produced in the last forty years. The truth is, quite simply, that you have been selected because you are special.
Over the next year, you will receive pragmatic training in the use of all practical forms of modern martial arts. You will how to crack the highest security available to any institution on Earth. You will learn how to utilize most firearms in a combat situation, and you will learn to speak every language you will ever need to. Your skillset will become one adaptable to any humanly possible situation - because where you're going, 'humanly possible' tends to become irrelevant pretty quickly.
Your job will be to handle what some might call urban legends. Mysteries, tales, stories of the night and the campfire - everything and anything that can be linked back to beings of unidentifed origin, we will send you to investigate. To put it in layman's terms... you will be sent to find monsters. And you will eliminate them.
Welcome to T.A.I.S.E.N, recruits. Are you ready to save the world?
Okay, guys, so it's finally here - my Toku Academy/Henshin Superspy RP! Basically, for those of you who haven't heard it already, the premise is as such - take an OC, preferably between 13 to 18 years of age. Take a tokusatsu series (mainly Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, although others may be worked in with permission from me) and grab the powers of any of the heroes therein. Think up a plausible AU explanation for the discovery of said powers by a secret, global espionage agency, set in a world not unlike our own, minus all the toku and plus lots of intrigue - and then mix it all up in a blender on high. Generally, the law applies as such. You DO NOT need to read this all. It is a preemptive FAQ, because I am pedantic.
1. Mystic transformation trinkets (e.g. Magiphone) are generally found at archaeological sites in very mysterious circumstances, somehow still functioning under the main rules of their 'verses - to what extent this applies is up to you, and discussion is welcome. These are classified within T.A.I.S.E.N. as 'X-types.'
2. Tech-based gear are mostly developed by TAISEN (typing the periods got really old) researchers, sometimes funded by AU, conglomerate versions of the original developers (e.g. SRS, Smart Brain), sometimes derived from the corresponding X-types (e.g. the two Birth Systems). These are known as 'Y-types.'
3. Occasionally, an individual comes along and offers his services to TAISEN, effectively becoming an unofficial, contract-bound member of the faculty - they are known as freelancers, and the devices they give are known as 'Z-types.' This is a useful way to add a relationship or empowering entity that sticks closer to canon - so yes, you can bring in the Imagin, or the Watchdogs, or a Heavenly Saint, or even Ankh if you wish. Just make sure that it happens to be essential to the actual transformation trinket. Also, please note that the freelancer will still be bound by TAISEN rules - therefore, your agent will not be able to run around and do what he or she feels like simply because their backer tells them to. Every threat must be dealt with accordingly, though some concessions can secretly be made...
4. If the transformation relies on a pre-existing trait or ability, (e.g. Fangire blood, aptitude towards Geki, bloodline heritage, etc.) it will have to be in them from the start of the game, or otherwise instilled in them as soon as possible.
5.Your agent will have to have a personal tech crew of NPCs - these are part of the faculty of TAISEN, and they can range from anywhere to a single person to a crew of twenty. The level of help needed will vary from suit to suit, and will sometimes even be non-existent in most field exercises- however, it is the job of the technician to familiarise and equip the agent for the mission. Therefore, at least one senior member (possibly the discoverer/developer of the trinket) might be a good idea to have on hand. They will maintain audio contact at all times during a mission, and the level of detail in them is up to you - you can make them full-on secondary characters, or just ignore them for the most part, only having them pop in by radio as the plot demands. However, it would be a good idea to give at least one of them a name.
6. Both of the main suit lines have been completely redesigned from the ground up in terms of internal workings - the Ranger and Rider Systems have been modified to include a remote locking system for every single one of their workings by the power of SCIENCE. This essentially means that the transformations and weapons used are completely controlled by main HQ - although permission is generally laxer for the simpler functions (henshins, basic weapons, etc), the higher abilities - such as Super Modes and highly dangerous powers (Clock Up, etc.) are disabled by default, and can only be activated after a query. Also, the suits' onboard graphical interfaces have been radically redesigned - they can now be configured to call up temperature readings, magnifications, multiple viewpoints and even net information with a single mental or verbal command. Iron Man style. Basically, after transformation, an additional sequence will pop up on the agents' screens in glowing colored letters -
Ranger/Rider System 'X' , Starting Up.
Biological signature recognized - Identity Confirmed. Audio link established. Video link established.
Ranger/Rider System 'X', Online. Commence deployment.
Different franchises might have different text, and some might lack them altogether. Majority rule.
7. Not ALL Rangers/Riders/Whatever are part of TAISEN. Many are still working on their own, and most of them are aware of TAISEN already. I'll have a list of existing TAISEN gears up soon, but for now, let's just bear that in mind.
Alright, with that ridiculous amount of stuff out of the way, let's get on to the template!
Name: Self-explanatory.
Age: As I said, 13 to 18.
Sex: Again, self-explanatory... I think.
Appearance: Just briefly if you want. A picture is fine.
Personality: Try to make it three-dimensional. There will be a lot of interaction in this RP. No rush for overt detailing, you can work that out later.
History: Again, variable - just include the basic stuff if you want, up to the point where your character wakes up on a helicarrier over the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Time for the important stuff! Basically:
Powers/Abilities/Skills: Anything that your character might possess out of suit. You should stick to things that are direct colloraries of being able to use it. Human abilities that they possess also go here.
Gear: Firstly, type - X, Y, or Z - and then the gear. Just name it, I think most of us have the background knowledge to know what it is.
Gear Origin: How the Gear was discovered/invented/whatever. Make one up if you can't think of anything.
Affiliated Characters: Optional. Put a freelancer or a technical advisor you've already thought up here. You can be brief, especially when the person's canon - though you can alter the person's history to fit the AU.
And... that should be it! I'll have an example up soon, as well as a list of existing TAISEN gears. Have fun!
