Any starship worth the name can take whatever shit modern Earth would throw at it. Our big stuff might be capable of penetrating the hull, but nothing would be able to scratch the Deflecter Shields. And if it did do any damage to the shields, you start shooting at the planet.

China probably isn't that great a choice - for one thing, it is just as reliant on imports as others are on its' exports. Secondly, it lacks a blue-water navy (though it is developing one) - it possesses only one carrier (converted from an aging Russian design, natch), making any seaborne movement of forces dangerous. Thirdly, it has another large nuclear state on its' doorstep - Russia - which could deploy its' nuclear weapons in a tactical role, which would invalidate any human wave tactics (not to mention the difficulties caused to any Chinese war effort if such devices were used in a strategic role). It may also make use of the chemical weapon stockpiles that have not been destroyed yet. It is difficult to comment on the PRC's air forces. Finally, any landborne invasion would be dogged by a long (and vulnerable) supply chain that could be disrupted.

Of course, any nation would be unable to conquer the world, possibly even with assistance, considering both the logistical and military issues. But this line of conversation isn't going anywhere fast.

It doesn't invalidate my other points. You also can't very well "deactivate" chemical weapons, and binary versions can bypass gas masks. Secondly, ballistic missiles use MIRVs and decoys, which would overwhelm even modern active defence systems. Missile silos are also hardened, and it would be too difficult to detect SLBMs.

But I will leave it here - it has little to nothing to do with the RP.
