Because there's no better way to introduce a new character! Say hello, Kay!
-A little, pigtailed Asian girl looks up timidly from her sketchpad, pencil in hand - then she gets up with a surprised look, smooths down her flower-patterned skirt and gives a sheepish wave, still half-hiding behind her drawing.-
"Um... hello. I'm Kay. I'm just here to... get to know you all, just like Mr. Narrator said." The faintest glimpse of a nervous smile appears on her face, and she giggles, slightly embarrassed at her own discomfiture.
Don't mind her, she's just getting used to this whole 'meeting new people' thing. I promise that she'll be her usual bubbly self by the time S2 rolls around!
"Do you... do you have any questions for me?" Her smile widens somewhat. She seems more relaxed now, though it also appears that she's still unwilling to come out from behind her pad.

“Oh!” For a moment, the girl’s eyes widen in surprise – then she nods excitedly, and puts down the sketchpad. The latest page flips over to reveal a simple, half-finished pencil drawing – a woman, a man and a smiling boy, with Kay herself standing in the middle of them, her name denoted below her. Rather well done for her age, really – but art is the last thing on her mind now. "Let's be friends, then!"
“What do you want to play?” she asks, clearly overjoyed at this new companion.

Kun smiled and put down her staff.
"ummm.... I dunno, Kay. Why don't you pick?"

"Play? Hmmmmm...." The girl scratches her chin in puzzlement for a few seconds - then her eyes light up, and she looks up at the ceiling.
"Mr. Narrator?" she calls. "Do you have anything for us to do?"
Whuh I'm not ready yet what is this - oh. Umm.... yes, yes I do, Kay. Here, have this.
With that, a box filled with stuffed animals materializes in the middle of the floor. Eyes shining in delight, Kay lets out a little squeal and grabs a medium-sized panda from the middle of it, hugging it closely to her chest.
"Mr. Panda! You're here!"
I sure hope I'm not making a mistake here....
"Huh? What was that, Mr. Narrator?"
Nothing, Kay. You two girls just carry on now - if you want something, just think about it and it'll appear. No problem.
Kay smiles and nods. "Okay! Thank you, Mr. Narrator! Did you hear, Kun? We can make things appear now! Do you have any toys you want here? Do you? Or is that shiny stick a toy?" The panda is still pressed up against her.

Kun had already dived into the box of stuffed animals, coming out with a pig and setting it down. She thought for a minute as a medium-sized ball appeared in her hands.
"Ummm... Well, we can play with this while people ask you questions, right?"

Kay nods. "Sure! Didn't you hear Mr. Narrator?" She is looking unabashedly at the other girl, obviously enthralled by her strange appearance and odd staff.
"You said your daddy was called John, right, Kun?" A wide smile spreads across her face, and she seems to lapse back into a mode of proud recollection.
"My daddy talks to people. Mommy says he listens to their problems and he gives them good advice, and they go away feeling a lot better. Of course, I know that they feel better, because he's the best person in the whole world! Except for Mommy. Daddy always says that Mommy is the only person who he'd never want to see at work." A giggle.
"What does your daddy do?"

Kun gently lobbed the ball at Kay and smiled.
"My daddy works at the... um.. Lec... Um... Elek... Electrum! My daddy works at the Electrum Factory in Republic City. He helped design this really fancy machine they have that lets the lightningbenders store their lightnin' so the people near Republic City can use their radios and lights too! He called it... um... a Battery?"

"Wow!" Catching the ball, the girl throws it back and claps her hands in awed, excited wonder. "Your dad invented the battery? Big brother uses them all the time! They're in some of my toys, too!"
The faintly puzzled look comes to her face again.
"...What's a lightningbender?"

"Someone who can control lightning, I think."
"What are your thoughts on steam power?"

"Controlling lightning? That sounds cool! Like a TV show!" Kay gives an affirmative nod, before placing a thoughtful hand on her chin and focusing on the next question, brow furrowing in typically childlike earnestness.
"Steam power... isn't that what old trains used to need to run?" A thought comes to her, and she beams excitedly. "Mommy read me a book once! It had lots of trains in it! It was all about a train that didn't think he could do it, but then he kept thinking he could do it, and so he finally got up the hill!"
"I like steam power! Steam engines are nice!"

"Would you like Faversham to build you a steam locomotive?"

"Oh, could you really? That would be great! Thank you!" Without once questioning the locomotive-building skills of this Faversham girl, Kay jumps up and smiles straight at her. "I'm Kay. Do you want to be friends?"

"Well..." The girl turns to Falkon and rubs her chin for a moment, clearly focusing on the question at hand - then she lights up and raises her hand.
"I like strawberry! Though chocolate's nice, too... and mango... maybe a teeny little bit of tropical..."
Silence.
"Mommy doesn't let me eat enough pudding," is her definitive conclusion, delivered with a sage nod.

"I like rice pudding!" Kun said as she gently tossed the ball to Kay. "It's really the only flavor in Gaoling."

"Gaoling? Where's that? Is it where you live, Kun?" The ball is caught and thrown back, with much the same vigour as before.
"I love hearing about new places!"

Kun caught the ball and threw it back.
"Yep! Mommy and daddy have lived there for about 20 years in the same house. My big sister Zhi spends a lot of time traveling, so I don't get to see her much, but she's always really fun and really nice! And Qiang's a little silly because he wants to be a Masked Rider like daddy, but he's really nice to everyone. He even dated princess Mei once! ...But they said they'd rather be friends. Um... anyway, I'm learning airbending from daddy, but he's not a bender, but he tells people his grandfather was so he knows the moves. I get caught out in the trees a lot, though, and... and I'm afraid of heights."
She shivered, just thinking about it.
"But Daddy's armor looks really silly. It's red and yellow and green, but he's really tough with it on! He can even airbend a little in it."

Kay paused at the new arrival, quirking her head to the side and blinking several times in confusion.
"Um....."
She pressed a finger to her chin, clearly in a deep state of six-and-a-half-year-old thought.
"Mommy made very nice fish head curry...." All of a sudden, her eyes lit up, and she held her stuffed panda up with both hands, beaming widely.
"Mr. Panda says he would like a fish head. Could you please give Mr. Panda a fish head?"

"Of course!" Mary said, before revealing a large, colorful fish head, and holding it near the stuffed animal. "Here us go, Mr. Panda!" she said.
